I like both. Perhaps those who doesn’t like shounen much and likes story with darker tone will chose death note(even though both are shounen but for me death note feels more like seinen). I almost chose death note but thinking about it again after L died and the appearance of N the story even though still good but not as good as when there is still L(perhaps this is also because I hope more on Light to win not that N). Fullmetal however even though I’m not a big fan of shounen still god me hook because the story is nice, the fighting is cool and also most importantly for me it doesn’t feel like the quality dropped in my eyes(death note is good but the quality dropped a bit after L died and Light is not as competent and clever after L died(he is clever but not as clever as he used to be) also Light doesn’t feel right anymore a bit(not his wish but just, I think the Light that I watch for 28 episodes wouldn’t put to much faith in his people unlike in N’s appearance and I’m a bit mad that he actually lost for such stupid reason, he should have WON). Sorry that the post is long.
Yes, I loved both series; but Fullmetal Alchemist brotherhood is more well-rounded. It deals with a variety of themes - including the dark side of human nature - and it does that so beautifully!
I wonder how many ppl voted that haven’t seen both...
I'm giving it to DN, not after season 1. But before it, I don't think fmab is as good.
Well it depends. Both are good bur Death Note is more serious in the depth of story while because fmab is action shounen so for those who didn’t like action that much then death note is better then fmab but for those who like shounen MC that still isn’t to much of a prick and has good story(DN is good but it is focused on story and has psychological tag in terms of depth DN is more then fmab) and the fighting is good as well (the not so much use of cgi is a plus as well) then fmab is a good pick. So if someone wants serious story and doesn’t like shounen MC(even though DN is shounen in name but it feels like seinen instead) then Death Note. If someone doesn’t want that much seriousness and instead wants more action with some comedy and a bit seriousness sometimes then fmab is a good pick.
I absolutely disagree that DN has more depth of story than FMAB (or the manga). The stories are just different types. It many ways FMA is far more deep than DN which gets very repetitive at points and is far less characters than FMA. DN depends heavily on a real life world backdrop for most of it while FMA has to create a whole world with multiple cultures and complex politics.
People prob like DN more because it is easier to identify with contemporary stories and Japanese are well known to be overly enamoured of detective/police stories which is most of what DN really is.
Well I think the word depth that I use is wrong. But it absolutely depends on anyone who watch it. If the person doesn’t like shounen MC then Death Note. If they like detective stuff and mind games then death note. If they like action pack while still have a bit comedy and still has good story that still feels good in the end then Fullmetal. I chose Fullmetal because Death Note is not as good in the last 10 episodes and the ending is not that satisfying because N wins, I don’t mind if L or Light wins but N come on. And the way he guess the guy who messed up in the end(forgot the name) as the holder of death note(the other kira) is like plucking leafs with zero sense. N ruined 20% of the story for me(if when before L dies I gave it 5/5 when N appears till the end I gave 4/5). Wish the author make a alternate ending where Light wins damn. I was satisfied till the end for fullmetal unlike death note so I chose it.
Well I don’t generally like shonen and I don’t mind detective stories, but I found FMAB way better.
Maybe it is because I like fantasy. Also didn’t feel like DN got much better after the first 10 episodes or so whereas FMAB got much better and the story had so many great characters beyond the brothers. DN only had maybe 5 characters I cared about at all.
I guess what I’m saying is you have to be more careful with your analysis.
Well thank you for correcting me and the suggestion. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood deserves to be 1st ranked in My Anime List because it is so good. The 64 episodes doesn’t feel long at all(actually I want to watch if there is more but I feel it is truly complete) and there were no loose ends. I guess the journey of the Elric brothers to Xing is something that we can picture for ourselves. The MC is just like most shounen MC except somehow with the story it doesn’t irritate me I don’t know why. Nice plot. I also love the fight scenes(no cgi that I can notice is always a plus). And I like your opinion saying the plot doesn’t feel repetitive. Death Note irritates me especially the ending and because I rant so much about it so I’ll stop about ranting about it.
What do you think?
