In my opinion, there are 3 anime that have surprised me
IWGP: Ikebukuro West Gate Park
Mystery anime, uses some of the most common Japanese clichés; Street Gangs, Soloist MC, Friendship. The clichéd part got me a lot but its source material was written back in the 90s, so I actually don't mind much. It reminded me a lot of Kabukichou Sherlock and Bungou Stray Dogs. I have read that it has a much darker theme than it makes out to be.
Talentless Nana [Minor Spoilers]
I mean who doesn't just want to watch an Among Us game from the impostors perspective. This honestly started out pretty generic but then it just stops there and takes a sharp turn to the dark side. Who we thought of as the MC literally died in the first episode. It should've gotten a better adaptation, don't get me wrong this isn't bad, it could've been much better. The animation and artstyle makes it out to be a bit generic looking and kiddish too.
Jujutsu Kaisen
This was the 5th shonen anime I added to my watch list for this season. And I'm glad I did. This anime is exactly what it is and doesn't try to be anything else either. MAPPA has adapted this so gorgeously, the pacing used in the anime is fantastically done. I'm amazed and glad MAPPA didn't rush this one. The OST, animation and story are all just done so well (I still don't know about the characters though).
