Ascendance of a Bookworm (本好きの下剋上～司書になるためには手段を選んでいられません～, Honzuki no Gekokujō ~Shisho ni Naru Tame niwa Shudan o Erandeiramasen~; "Ascendence of a Bookworm ~I can't choose the means to become a Librarian~"), also simply known as Honzuki no Gekokujō (本好きの下剋上), is a Japanese fantasy light novel series written by Miya Kazuki and illustrated by Yō Shiina. It was serialized online between September 2013 and March 2017 on the user-generated web novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō. It was later acquired by TO Books, who have published seventeen volumes since January 2015.

A manga adaptation of the first part with art by Suzuka was serialized online via Niconico Seiga website between October 2015 and July 2018. It was collected in seven tankōbon volumes by TO Books. Both the light novel and manga are published in English by J-Novel Club. An anime adaptation by Aija-do Animation Works premiered on October 2, 2019 and ran for 14 episodes to December 26, 2019. A 2nd season premiered on April 5, 2020 and ran for 12 episodes to June 21, 2020. A 3rd season premiered on April 12, 2022 and ran for 10 episodes to Jun 14, 2022. A 4th season was announced to be in production, but the animation studio will be Wit Studio.

Plot[]

A Japanese college student named Urano Motosu just got her Librarian certification but was killed by a massive earthquake getting crushed underneath by a pile of her books. She is reincarnated in another world as a young girl named Myne but learns that here, books are scarce and only provided to prestigious elites. Retaining her memories from her previous life, Myne decides to create and print her books, make her library so that she can read again.
