Beyblade (ベイブレード, Beiburēdo) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Takao Aoki. Originally serialized in CoroCoro Comic from 2000 to 2002, the chapters were collected and published in 14 tankōbon volume by Shogakukan. The series franchise focuses on a group of kids who form teams with which they battle one another using highly powerful spinning tops called "Beyblades" which are enchanted with magical spirits.

The manga is licensed for English language release in North America by Viz Media. The manga was adapted into a three season anime series aired in Japan on TV Tokyo, all licensed for English adaptation, broadcast, and release in North America by Nelvana and Hasbro Studios. The first season titled Explosive Shoot Beyblade spanned 51 episodes from January 8, 2001 to December 24, 2001. The second season Beyblade V-Force for 51 episodes from January 7, 2002 until December 30, 2002. The third season, Beyblade G Revolution spanned 52 episodes from January 6, 2003 to December 29, 2003.

Takara Tomy continued the Beyblade toy line until its popularity reached worldwide, eventually developing new generations into the franchise. The second generation entitled Metal Fight Beyblade was produced as a joint-project by Tatsunoko and Synergy SP, and licensed by Nelvana as Beyblade: Metal Fusion. The third toyline generation entitled Beybalde Burst launched on July 15, 2015, while the manga serialized in Shogakukan's Shōnen magazine CoroCoro Comic in August 2015. As non-canon, an original Canadian spin-off entitled BeyWheelz was produced by Nelvana for American release.

Plot[]

Explosive Shoot Beyblade[]

The story focuses on Takao Kinomiya and his team members; Kai Hiwatari, Max Mizuhara and Rey Kon. Takao's blader life takes a drastic step ahead, as the azure dragon spirit in his family's heirloom enters his blade, becoming its bit-beast. Together they form the Bladebreakers, Japan's representative in the World Beyblading Championships. Whilst Takao finds himself up against new rivals and their own bit-beast, he and his teammates face against secret organizations using the Bit-Beasts for their own agendas while aiming to be the world's number one beyblader.

Metal Fight Beyblade[]

The plot follows the adventures of Gingka Hagane, a beyblader who is searching for his hidden past. Together with a boy named Kenta Yumiya whom he becomes fast friends with, they befriend new rivals while uncovering the mysteries of the constellation bit-beasts.

Beyblade Burst[]

The story revolves around Valt Aoi and his classmates as they fight their way through tournaments with their eyes set on the title of "World's #1 Blader"!

BeyWheelz[]

Sho Tenma, Jin Ryu, and Leon Fierce are members of Team Estrella, a group of young and talented Beywheelers residing at Destection City. After a group of aggressive wheelers called Dominators attempt to take over the Beywheelz world, Team Estrella takes them on with the fate of the world in their hands, along with the fate of an unknown, undiscovered one.

In that unknown world, six guardian beasts provide protection and help cities to thrive through battles called BeyRaiderz. As an unknown evil arises to take on the six guardian figures, they unite to protect the land but fell into a deep slumber in the end. This allows many natural disasters to occur, causing the land to lose its beauty and the people to forget about BeyRaiderz battles. As the six guardian beasts begin to awaken, they call on six BeyWarriors from other lands. Now Team Estrella and three other BeyWarriors are bestowed BeyRaiderz and charged to battle in a coliseum arena to the next for the spirits to reawake before the darkness threatens the world once more.
