Cardcaptor Sakura is a shojo anime and manga made by CLAMP. It follows the adventures of Sakura Kinomoto as she finds the clow cards that she unleashed from a book. The manga was released in 1996, while the anime was made in 1998.
Manga
The manga was first released in the shojo manga magazine Nakayoshi. The manga was a hit in Japan. It had 5th grader Sakura Kinomoto unleashed the clow cards from their seal. Cerberus, (or Kero) the gaurdian of the cards, tells sakura to find the cards before they cause disasters. It was so popular it was made into an anime.
Anime
The anime was realesed in 1998 and featured new clow cards. The opeing song was "Catch you, Catch Me." Nelvana aquired the series and and renamed it "Cardcaptors." It made many cuts and edits on relashionships and phrases which angered many fans. The original Japanese episodes were released uncut on DVD by Geneon Entertainment. However, in 2006, the DVDs became out of print. They are rare to come by today.
DVDs
In 2002, Geneon Entertainment released Cardcaptor Sakura DVDs uncut and uncensored in Japanese with english subtitles. It sold very well. In 2006, the Cardcaptor Sakura licence expired, causing the dvds to go out of print.
