Ascendance of a Bookworm (本好きの下剋上~司書になるためには手段を選んでいられません~, Honzuki no Gekokujō ~Shisho ni Naru Tame niwa Shudan o Erandeiramasen~; "Ascendence of a Book lover ~You can't choose a way to become a librarian~"), also simply known as Honzuki no Gekokujō (本好きの下剋上), is a Japanese fantasy light novel series written by Miya Kazuki and illustrated by Yō Shiina. It was serialized online between September 2013 and March 2017 on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō. It was later acquired by TO Books, who have published seventeen volumes since January 2015.

A manga adaptation of the first part with art by Suzuka was serialized online via Niconico Seiga website between October 2015 and July 2018. It was collected in seven tankōbon volumes by TO Books. Both the light novel and manga are published in English by J-Novel Club. An anime adaptation by Ajia-do Animation Works will premiere on October 2, 2019.


A Japanese college student named Urano Motosu just got her Librarian certification but was killed by a massive earthquake getting crushed underneath by a pile of her own books. She is reincarnated in another world as a young girl named Maine, but learns that here, books are scarce and only provided to prestigious elites. Retaining her memories from her previous life, Maine decides to create and print her own books, make her own library so that she can read again.
