An anime film adaptation titled Monster Strike The Movie was released on December 10, 2016 serving as the anime's prologue.

Ren Homura has just moved back to his hometown of Kaminohara with only vague memories about the time he spent there in his childhood. After having his cell phone retrieved from the repair shop, he finds that a mysterious game titled “Monster Strike” has been installed on it. Unaware of its purpose or how it got there, Ren decides to open it, an action that will change his life forever as he finds himself suddenly attacked by a strange man by summon, a realistic monster from the game.

Ren finds himself in a pinch as the monster is capable of inflicting real damage, but manages to summon a monster of his own, the diminutive dragon Oragon, as well as awakening an alter ego from his missing memories. With the help of his classmate Aoi Mizusawa, Ren defeats the man's monster, seemingly freeing him from the control of an evil entity. Thus Ren enters the MS world through the town's Stadium leagues, as he assists Aoi's desire to reunite her friends Akira Kagetsuki and Minami Wakaba into becoming a team of Monster Strike players, and finding his lost memories.
