Sherlock Hound (名探偵ホームズ, Meitantei Hōmuzu; lit. "Famous Detective Holmes") is an Italian-Japanese anime series based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes series where all the characters are depicted as anthropomorphic dogs. The show featured regular appearances of Jules Verne-steampunk style technology, adding a 19th-century science-fiction atmosphere to the series. It was a joint project between Japan's Tokyo Movie Shinsha and the Italian public broadcasting corporation RAI, and aired for 26 episodes between November 6, 1984 to May 21, 1985.
In a world of anthropomorphic dogs in 19th Century London, the story focuses on Baker Street's famous detective, Sherlock Hound, and his assistant, Dr. Watson. Together they solve the foggiest mysteries that lurk in the shadows, mostly committed by the nefarious Professor Moriarty and his gang.
