The Ancient Magus' Bride

The Ancient Magus' Bride (魔法使いの嫁, Mahō Tsukai no Yome) is a Japanese fantasy shōnen manga series written and illustrated by Kore Yamazaki. The series is published in Japan by Mag Garden in its Monthly Comic Garden magazine. The manga is licensed in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment. A three-part prequel OVA titled The Ancient Magus' Bride: Those Awaiting a Star (魔法使いの嫁星待つひと, Mahō Tsukai no Yome: Hoshi Matsu Hito) by Wit Studio aired from September 10, 2016 to September 9, 2017. Two light novels titled The Ancient Magus' Bride: The Golden Yarn (魔法使いの嫁金糸篇, Mahōtsukai no Yome Kinshi-hen) and The Ancient Magus' The Silver Yarn (魔法使いの嫁銀糸篇, Mahōtsukai no Yome Ginshi-hen) were released on September 8, 2017 and October 10, 2017 respectively.

An anime television series adaptation premiered on October 8, 2017 and ran for 24 episodes to March 25, 2018 also produced by Wit Studio. A series of 3 min shorts called Magic Bride (まほよめ, MahoYome) started just before the main series on October 3, 2017 and ran for 24 episodes to March 24, 2018 by W-Toon Studio and DMM.futureworks. A YouTube short (3 min) title The Ancient Magus' Bride: School Arc PV ( 『魔法使いの嫁学院篇』コミックス宣伝PV, “Mahōtsukai no Yome Gakuin-hen” Komikkusu Senden PV) appeared on the MAGGardeninfo channel to promote the 11th volume of the manga. A three-part sequel OVA titled The Ancient Magus' Bride: The Boy from the West and the Knight of the Blue Storm (魔法使いの嫁西の少年と青嵐の騎士, Mahō Tsukai no Yome: Nishi no Shounen to Seiran no Kishi) this time by Studio Kafka premiered on September 10, 2021 and ran to September 10, 2022.

On September 5, 2022, Twin Engine (parent of Geno Studio) announced a second anime season in production with an expected premiere in April 2023. The second season by Studio Kafka premiered April 6, 2023 and is expected to run for 12 episodes.

It led to a two spin-off manga titled The Ancient Magus' Bride: Jack Flash and the Faerie Case Files (魔法使いの嫁詩篇.75 稲妻ジャックと妖精事件, Mahou Tsukai no Yome Shihen.75: Inazuma Jack to Yousei Jiken) written by Yu Godai and illustrated by Mako Oikawa, and The Ancient Magus' Bride: Wizard's Blue (魔法使いの嫁詩篇.108 魔術師の青, Mahou Tsukai no Yome Psalm 108: Wizard's Blue) written by Makoto Sanda and illustrated by Isuo Tsukumo with Kore Yamazaki acting as Script Supervisor of both spin-off.

Plot[]

Hatori Chise is only 15, but she has lost far more than most. With neither family nor hope, it seems all doors are closed to her. But, a chance encounter began to turn the rusted wheels of fate. In her darkest hour, a mysterious magus appears before Chise, offering a chance she couldn't turn down. This magus who seems closer to demon than human, will he bring her the light she desperately seeks, or drown her in ever deeper shadows?
