The Witcher (ウィッチャー, Uitchā) is a fantasy franchise based on Andrzej Sapkowski's novels, centered on Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter navigating a world of magic, political intrigue, and destiny. It gained fame through CD Projekt Red's video games, especially The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and expanded with Netflix's live-action series (2019), the anime films Nightmare of the Wolf (ウィッチャー 狼の悪夢, Uitchā Ōkami no Akumu; 2021) and upcoming Sirens of the Deep (ウィッチャー 深海のセイレーン, Uitchā Shinkai no Seirēn; 2025), and the spinoff manga The Witcher: Ronin (2022).
Plot[]
Nightmare of the Wolf[]
In The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, Vesemir, a seasoned witcher, investigates mysterious monster attacks linked to an elven girl, Kitsu, who has been mutated and now wields powerful illusions. As he uncovers the truth, Vesemir learns that corrupt witchers, led by Deglan, have been creating monsters to sustain their trade.
Tetra, a sorceress opposed to witchers, uses this revelation to launch an assault on Kaer Morhen, aided by Kitsu's creations. Vesemir battles Tetra and her forces, only to discover her tragic backstory and her use of illusions to destroy the witcher order's secrets. The battle results in significant losses, including the death of Vesemir's childhood friend Illyana.
Before dying, Deglan tasks Vesemir with leading the remaining witcher recruits, including a young Geralt. Vesemir spares Kitsu and sets out with the recruits, embracing his new role as their mentor and leader.
Sirens of the Deep[]
In The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, Geralt of Rivia, a mutated witcher, takes on a contract to uncover the cause of a series of attacks plaguing a coastal village. His investigation pulls him into a long-standing feud between humans and merpeople. With tensions rising and the threat of war looming, Geralt must rely on allies, both familiar and unexpected, to unravel the mystery and prevent a full-scale conflict between the two kingdoms.
